As coordinator for national prestigious scholarships, Stu McLaughlin applies his own experience in student advising and as a laureate of international education fellowships to help Auburn’s students enhance their careers and shape their world through a wide range of scholarship opportunities. As a graduate researcher and a specialist in multilingual education, he has firsthand experience of the tremendous impact that international exchange has on community relationships and resource accessibility between global collectives.
As a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, McLaughlin received a dual bachelor's degree in Spanish and Russian languages, then pursuing intensive graduate study to research themes of ethnonationalism and minority language policy in Soviet-era and modern-day Central Asian countries, with additional research experience on topics of multicultural integration policy for migrants in Japan. It is precisely this wide breadth of experience that motivates McLaughlin to engage with students and help them reach their study and career benchmarks on their own terms.
McLaughlin holds master’s degrees in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies from Stanford University and Central Eurasian Studies from Indiana University.
