About the Scholarship

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation - the federal memorial to our thirty-third President - awards merit-based scholarships to college students who plan to pursue careers in government or elsewhere in public service. Truman Scholars receive up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school, participate in leadership development activities, and have special opportunities for internships and employment with the federal government.

Applicants must apply for university nomination. Auburn may nominate four students per cycle. Make an appointment with our office to begin the application process.

Auburn University is a proud partner of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. As part of this partnership, the Auburn University Graduate School has committed to providing a matching $30,000 award for up to two years to Truman scholarship recipients enrolled in on-campus graduate programs at Auburn. This award will be provided in addition to the support Truman Scholars receive from the foundation.

The award includes up to $30,000 toward a public service-related graduate degree, a Truman Scholars leadership week, and the opportunity to participate in an eight-week Summer Institute in Washington, D.C.
