Welcome to Honors, Dr. Fagan!
Auburn University has appointed Benjamin Fagan, associate professor of English, to be the Honors College’s assistant director for National Prestigious Scholarships.
In the role, Fagan will support undergraduate and graduate students from across campus, educating them about national scholarship programs, such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Goldwater and Fulbright programs, and supporting students as they apply for these highly competitive opportunities. |

Cater Hall is under constructionKatharine Cooper Cater Hall is currently undergoing a much-needed facelift to preserve its legacy and enhance your experience. While construction is underway, we're still open and ready to welcome you!
Please note:
Construction fencing is up. You may enter the building via the east ramp to the front door or through the side door next to Harper Hall. The pedestrian sidewalk on the east side of Cater Hall (adjacent to Harper Hall) will remain open, but the walkway on the west side of Cater Hall (between Little Hall) will be closed. The back door of the building will be closed as well.
We appreciate your patience and excitement as we work to restore and improve this beloved space. Please note that some Honors events will be moved to other locations on campus. Check the newsletter and our social media platforms for updates!

Welcome back to our returning students, and to our newest students, welcome! The Honors College staff, faculty and I look forward to seeing you this week as the fall semester begins.
The coming year will be a time of growth and positive change for the Honors College. Cater Hall, the beautiful historic building that houses our administrative offices, needs a new roof and general restoration of its exterior, so the building will have construction fencing around it for the first few months of the semester. Please know that we are open for business, even if it looks like we are not. Students, stay tuned for possible relocations of academic advising appointments during the loudest stage of construction.
I am delighted to report that just as our building is going through a phase of renewal, the college is changing in other ways, especially in the resources and opportunities we offer to our students. |

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Benjamin Fagan, associate professor of English, as our new assistant director for National Prestigious Scholarships. Dr. Fagan has ambitious plans underway to educate all Auburn students about national and international scholarships and grants, and to support our students as they apply for these opportunities. He will be visiting all sections of our Freshman Exploration classes this fall and reaching out to students in many other ways, so I hope that all of you get to meet him soon.
As we work to expand opportunities for Honors students to participate in mentored research and creative endeavor, we will be piloting a new type of introductory research course, the Research Venture Lyceum. |

This week's book is ...
Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach.
“This is a book for dreamers who passionately pursue their goals. You may recognize yourself in this classic novel’s main character, a rebellious seagull named Jonathan. Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a unique bird. Like other birds he loves to fly, but Jonathon doesn’t just fly! He constantly challenges limits, flying higher and faster than his flock. Younger gulls are inspired by his example of embracing life and soaring beyond the mundane rhythms of an everyday existence.”
This book was entered into the Collective Library by Maggie Rogers, Student Programing Coordinator II. |
