New Course: Honors Intermediate Spanish II

In addition to normal course work, the student will have weekly live sessions with a native speaker, mini-vocabulary presentations in class, and complete a final paper at the end of the semester. The student will write a 4-page research paper in Spanish exploring a cultural topic in the Spanish-speaking world. The student will be able to explore a cultural side of Spanish while continuing to develop grammatical and vocabulary skills beyond what is taught in class.

This Honors Intermediate Spanish II class is designed to be a review of the major Spanish verb tenses including past, present, future, and past subjunctive. Each lesson will be centered around a common theme, such as travel, food, future plans, student careers, and current events. The instructor will give a short explanation of the relevant verb tenses and provide opportunities to practice through written exercises, role plays, and games. Articles, short stories, music, film clips, etc. relating to the chosen theme will also be used for additional grammar and vocabulary practice, as well as development of conversational skills in a relaxed and comfortable environment.

Student Opportunities

Become an SI Leader!

(A message from Dr. Jessica Koehler)

Good afternoon Honors students!

I hope that everyone is doing well after fall break and gearing up for midterms.

Supplemental Instruction, or SI, is looking for new SI Leaders for next semester. If you are interested in learning about what SI Leaders do and this amazing job opportunity, I encourage you to attend one of the informational sessions we’re hosting next week.  All sessions will be in the Academic Support Classroom on the ground floor of the library (0176 RBD).

  • Tuesday 24th from 2:30-3:30p
  • Wednesday 25th from 11:00a-12:00p
  • Thursday 26th from 1:00-2:00p

Once the informational sessions are done, the interview process will begin. Applications can be found on our website.

Although we are somewhat flexible in the subjects we need SI leaders for, we are looking to fill the following course: Phys 1000, 1600, and 1610, HIST 1010, MATH 1000, 1120, and 1150, and BIO 2510.  We could have spaces available in other course in those subjects, as well as HIST, ACCT, and CHEM. Please visit our website for a complete list of the courses we currently serve.  Although we don’t serve Honors classes, many of our Leaders are Honors students, due to you exceptional academic skills.

If you haven’t been to an SI session for the class you’re considering, it is a good idea to try to sit in and observe a session before the interview process. The current SI session schedule is also on the website.

If you have any further questions, please let me know. If you are interested in becoming an SI leader, but can’t make it to one of those sessions, please feel free to email me to set up an individual appointment.

Thank you,

Dr. Koehler
